The composition has the autumn leaves of Guhōji Temple on Mt. Mama (present-day Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture), known as a famous spot for autumn leaves, in the foreground, and looks through them onto a wide view into the distance. The legendary beauty of the Nara Period, Tekona, on whom poems were composed in the Manyō-shū poetry anthology, is said to have committed suicide by drowning in the creek at Mama due to suffering caused by her beauty. The torii gate of the shrine where Tekona’s spirit dwells (present-day Tekona Reijindō) and Tsugihashi bridge spanning the sandbank can be seen. The mountains further in the distance could be considered Mt. Tsukuba and the Nikkō mountain range from their shapes, but since these are mountains impossible to see in this direction, it seems to depict scenery not true to life.
